Research into film genres

I have done some research into 5 film genres and taken some information from wikipedia about what the genres involve.

Horror- Horror films tend to get a negative emotional reaction from the viewers by playing on the audience's fears. The scenes often startle the audience through the means of macrabre and the supernatural. Examples of a horror film is Paranormal Activity, The Ring, Saw.

Comedy- Comedy emphasises mainly on humour. They are mostly light -hearted dramas and are made to entertain and amuse the audience. Examples of a comedy film is Date Night, Rush Hour, Coming to America.

Kids/ Universal- This genre of film is aimed at entertaining children or young audiences. It is usually rated U and has simplistic content that is age appropriate. Many films underneath this genre involve fantasy elements and imagination.
Many of these films are animated and contain a moral message or a plot which illustrates good overcoming evil. Examples of  Kids/ Universal films are: Cinderella, Aladdin and Princess and the frog.

Musical- This is a genre where songs are sung by the characters and added into the narrative which is sometimes accompanied by dancing. Examples of a musical film are: Marry Poppins, The sound of Music and Dream girls.

Evaluation of preliminary film

I think that I was quite successful in producing the film but when making the real opening sequence, there will be a few changes that I will make in order to enhance the quality of my film.
I will use lighting to keep the amount of light consistent to show the actors faces unless not need be.
I will also use a tripod to keep the camera still when hooting my film.
I will also have to make sure that i do not run over the time provided as i did in this task as is it was only meant to last 20 second long.
I will also make sure that i will shoot the film all in one day or if not, I will make sure that the actor wears the same clothes so that it does not create a continuity error like i did in the preliminary task.

Preliminary Film

This is my preliminary film which is meant to last 20 seconds long.

Characters and Script

Characters
I am choosing two characters to act in my 20second film. The characters are my media teacher and a classmate.
The story of the film is about a student who is late to his lesson and is nervous to come in to class. He comes into the lesson and speaks to the media teacher who is not happy about his lateness.

Script

Student walks slowly and reluctantly into the classroom to stand infront of the media teacher.
Steve (student): Sorry i'm late Ms
Teacher talks in a stern tone.
Ms Carlin (teacher): It's not good enough steve.
Hands over some work to steve
You need to read through that

Steve takes the work in a hurry
Steve: Alright then thank you Ms

In a calm, tired tone
Ms Carlin: Ok, Go and sit down

Location

I went around in my college to find where I would like to shoot my 2minute video and take a picture of the location I have chosen to shoot my video.
I have chosen this area in the college because it is quiet at all times so it will be a good place to shoot a video as there will be no distractions and the lighting is always high key which will make the video clearer.

Camera Shots

This camera shot is an extreme close up. It normally involves showing body parts, objects, gestures and facial expressions.

This is a close up shot. It shows something important that is happening or an important object.

This is an establishing shot which shows the environment and surroundings the film will normally take place. It normally relates to the film.
This is a mid-shot image which shows the surroundings and what costume the person is wearing which tell us abit about them.

This is a wide shot which shows part of the surroundings and things that are happening.

This image is a low angle shot which shows an object or a person. The low angle shot often makes something appear bigger and more powerful.

This is a high angle shot which shows an object or a person. The high angle shot often makes something appear smaller and less powerful.

This is a long shot which shows what is just infront of the camera and not really the surroundings.
